Troy Dumais - Making the Olympic Team

by Troy Dumais / July 16, 2008

I am finally home in Austin for a few days from a month plus worth of travels and competitions. It has been tough but the sport of diving has changed in so many ways. Instead of qualifying and being put on the team, the USA Olympic Diving Team has been a four year qualification process that ended on July 7. From World events to national events and selection camps all the Olympics divers have had to show consistency, world placing and national recognition in order to be selected.

Now that I am home, I am now preparing for nationals in Pasadena, California. This event is a week before I leave for Beijing. I have restarted the process of peaking for Beijing by hitting the weight room four to five times a week while continuing my two water workouts a day. It's tough and frustrating, pain and soreness always seem to crawl up, however, knowing that my job of performing at my best in China is the job at hand and my lifelong dream, I am putting those feelings and emotions behind and staying positive.
